White Sand Lake

View of White Sand Lake, the 1229 acre lake in Lac Du Flambeau, Wisconsin
White Sand Lake is a great lake. It's a big lake with a lot of bays and character, the water is clear (13 ft clarity) with great color, and it has some great walleye fishing. White Sand is 10-15 minutes from Lac Du Flambeau and is only about 20 minutes away from downtown Minocqua depending on what part of the lake you are starting from. There are a fair amount of big tracts of land around the lake which keeps the home density to a lower level (17 owners per mile of shoreline). The size of White Sand Lake (over 1200 acres) combined with the availability of many other lakes in the area keeps recreational boat traffic down and allows for a nice peaceful setting to enjoy the Northwoods. This lake is one of my favorites in the Northwoods. White Sand Lake (in the Boulder Junction/Lac du Flambeau area) is a deep, clear blue lake with limited development and significant stretches of undeveloped shoreline. Properties are scarce and move quickly when they hit the market, contributing to its reputation as a highly sought-after, high-end lake. The combination of clear, deep water and wild-feeling shoreline makes it a favorite for buyers who prioritize water quality and scenery above all. It's in the Boulder Junction/Lac du Flambeau area and is known for its clear blue water, depth, and limited development, making listings rare and highly sought after. Large sections of wild shoreline invite exploring by boat or kayak. For more information on White Sand Lake you can check out my Blog Post.

Biking/Walking/Ski Trails:
The Powell Trail System is about a 15 minute drive from White Sand Lake. The Powell Trail System is a series of trails through the woods and offers loops of 1.5, 2, 4.5 and 7 miles. The trails also serve as cross country skiing and snow shoeing trails.

The Lac Du Flambeau Bike Route runs past the west side of White Sand Lake on Pokegma Lake Trail. It offers two loop lengths (depending whether you go around Flambeau Lake or Pokegama Lake) of 7 and 11 miles from the starting point in downtown Lac Du Flambeau. There are bathroom available at the starting point (which is the middle if you're coming from White Sand Lake). The route is a road route so it isn't a perfect biking option, but it is a marked route so drivers should be more aware of your presence than if you were on a typical back road. With some road riding, nearby trails are also available in Manitowish Waters and Boulder Junction.
Snowmobile Trails:
There are not any snow machine trails near White Sand Lake, but a short drive will get you to various trails scattered across Northern Wisconsin.

Times are approximate. I just took a rough average from different points around the lake.

This is a summary based on available information.

White Sand’s clear, deep water supports walleyes, smallmouth and largemouth bass, pike, and panfish, with good structure for quality fish. Anglers typically work rocky points, bars, and deeper breaks with jigs, rigs, and deep‑running crankbaits, focusing on low‑light periods and cooler seasons for walleyes and larger predators. The undeveloped stretches also offer excellent paddling and wildlife viewing for those who prefer exploring shorelines over chasing fish. It’s widely viewed as a “dream lake” for buyers willing to wait for the right property.
