Trout Lake

View of Trout Lake, the 3864 acre lake in Boulder Junction, Wisconsin
Trout lake is one of the most special lakes in the Northwoods. It has an average depth of 49 feet and a max depth of 117 feet. The water is clear with a clarity of over 15 feet. What makes this 3,864 acre lake really special is that there are very few owners because it is mostly state land around the lake. The lake has over 35 acres of water per owner and only 6.67 owners per mile of shoreline. Trout Lake has more than 16 miles of mostly sand shoreline to explore and it all has a great Northwoods feel. The lake also is located in a great spot. It is about fifteen minutes north of Minocqua, fifteen minutes south of Boulder Junction and fifteen minutes southeast of Manitowish Waters. Homes rarely come up for sale on the lake so when one does you have to act fast. Trout lake is the second largest standalone lake in the county behind Lac Vieux Desert and is know to be a good fishing lake. Trout Lake is one of northern Wisconsin's signature lakes—extremely deep, clear, and sparsely developed—located roughly equidistant from Boulder Junction, Minocqua, and Manitowish Waters. With over 16 miles of shoreline and expansive open water, it offers a true big-lake experience, yet the number of homes is relatively low, so long stretches of shore remain forested and quiet. Trout Lake is known for good fishing and exceptional boating and paddling opportunities with enough size and depth to feel almost like an inland sea on windy days. It's one of northern Wisconsin's premier lakes with very clear, deep water, over 16 miles of shoreline, and relatively few homes for its size. It appeals to buyers who want a flagship big lake with strong trophy potential and central access to Boulder Junction, Minocqua, and Manitowish Waters. Buyers who choose Trout Lake typically want a premier, clear-water destination with trophy potential and central access to multiple Northwoods towns.

This is a summary based on available information.

Trout Lake is widely recognized as a top-tier fishery, with strong populations of walleyes, muskies, smallmouth bass, lake trout, and panfish. Its deep basins, steep breaks, and offshore structure support complex seasonal patterns, with fish often using 15–40 foot contours and moving shallower during low-light periods and transitional seasons. Lake trout and deeper walleyes are often targeted with trolling and vertical presentations, while smallmouths and muskies relate to rock, saddles, and main-lake points.
