Stormy Lake

View of Stormy Lake, the 523 acre lake in Eagle River, Wisconsin
There are a lot of really nice lakes in Northern Wisconsin, but very few compare to Stormy Lake. The Marl bottom and extreme clarity of Stormy Lake give it a beautiful Caribbean-like aqua blue coloring. While Stormy is a little more than 15 minutes from the stores in Eagle River, you can find gas in nearby Conover. There are parts of the lake that offer high speed dsl internet which is a nice perk. The lake is pretty much a huge swimming pool. It's great for all water activities, though not the best around for fishing. Stormy is 523 acres and has an average depth of 33 feet. The clarity checks in around 25 feet. There are 4.47 acres of water per owner and 22.81 owners per mile of shoreline. Stormy Lake, near Conover north of Eagle River, is widely regarded as one of the most visually striking lakes in the region with marl bottom and exceptional clarity that give the water a Caribbean-like aqua blue color. At over 500 acres and with a maximum depth around 63 feet, it feels like a substantial, open-water lake, yet shorelines remain lightly developed and framed by forest. The lake has relatively little weed growth and a sandy bottom with limited structure, which, combined with clear water and a seepage nature, contributes to its clean, open look. It's renowned for its marl bottom and striking turquoise water with clarity and color that make it one of the standout scenic lakes in the region. Light shoreline development and mostly forested banks give it a quiet, open feel, and many owners treat it as a place to swim, paddle, and boat for the view as much as for fishing. Buyers who choose Stormy often prioritize water color, quiet surroundings, and a "wow" factor view from the deck over being on a chain or chasing high-numbers fishing. This is a summary based on available information.

The Stormy Lake association notes that the lake is not particularly known as a numbers fishery, but it does support a sustainable population of smallmouth bass along with panfish and stocked brown trout. Sparse vegetation and very clear water mean fish commonly relate to subtle structure, depth breaks, and rock rather than lush weedbeds, making presentation and location more critical. Anglers who do well here often focus on early and late in the day, using finesse tactics, light line, and natural colors, or target deeper trout and smallmouth with more technical approaches. For cabin owners, Stormy is often treated as a swimming, boating, and scenery lake first, with fishing as a bonus challenge rather than the primary reason to own property.
