Butternut Lake

   Butternut Lake has an average depth of 25 feet and very clear water (18 feet). The lake is located about a half hour east of Eagle River. The home density of Butternut Lake is lower than most (10 owners per mile) as most of the shoreline on the lake is state owned. There are some forest roads to get to and from the lake which make for a scenic drive, but does add time if you are headed somewhere. This deeper, very clear lake roughly a half hour east of Eagle River offers a more open, blue-water feel than many smaller kettle lakes nearby. Its relatively low home density and significant stretches of undeveloped or lightly developed shoreline create long, quiet views and a sense of being tucked into the forest edge. The combination of depth, clarity, and elbow room makes it a strong fit for owners who value swimming, paddling, and scenic pontoon rides as much as they value fishing. Owners come here for the combination of strong water quality, scenic pontoon rides, and a more secluded feel than they'd find on the busier resort lakes closer to town. While the drive is longer than in-town lakes, Butternut's "destination" feel often appeals to buyers willing to trade proximity for privacy and water quality.
