Armour Lake

View of Armour Lake, the 328 acre lake in Boulder Junction, Wisconsin
Armour Lake is one of my favorite lakes for many reasons. It's a nice quiet lake northwest of Boulder Junction with deep (26 ft average), very clear water (10 ft clarity), and a beautiful 4.8-mile shoreline that makes it great for kayaking and rowing. While technically a public lake, it's hard to get access—you have to come in via the stream from Crab Lake, which takes a little work and isn't going to happen with a motorboat. This helps keep it remarkably quiet with very little day-to-day use. The lake has a lot of large parcels with only 15 owners per mile of shoreline, creating an extremely private feel and a peaceful vibe. The shoreline is mostly undeveloped, giving it an almost "non-motorized" character. While Armour Lake is a ways away from things like grocery stores and hospitals, there are some good places to grab a bite to eat nearby. Buyers who choose Armour want near-pristine water, exceptional privacy, and a quiet paddling experience, accepting the distance from towns and limited easy access as part of the tradeoff for such a special setting.

This is a summary based on available information.

Clear, deep, lightly pressured lakes like Armour typically support healthy bass and panfish populations, along with pike and sometimes stocked trout or walleye depending on management history. Fish often relate to steep breaks, rock, and mid-lake structure more than shallow weeds, especially during brighter conditions in midsummer. Anglers who do well here usually favor finesse tactics—light line, natural colors, and smaller jigs, plastics, or live bait—while timing outings for early, late, or windy periods when fish slide higher in the water column. For owners, Armour tends to fish like a clear-water classroom where careful, low-impact approaches are rewarded with quality fish and a very uncrowded feel.
